AQuestion from a Student:

If someone has difficulty to find out what will be the best career for
her… how can you help her finding her best profession? do you think
hypnotherapy can help her?

Mary Lee’s Response:Sure, hypnotherapy is a great tool for self-discovery.

Keep in mind that career can be different from purpose. Many times those two are confused. When a person is fortunate or diligent a career will support and mirror the purpose – but that is not always the case.

If we are talking about career, there are probably a few choices the person has in mind. You could Secondary Gains and Parts Therapy on each choice to see the pros and cons, and feelings and thoughts, about each choice. Once one or more career choices are determined to be favored, you can use role modeling and other techniques to put the person into that perspective to see how it feels and from the future perspective look back on the present person to see what the journey to the future person would have been like.

Now if we are talking purpose, you can use past life regression to look at a number of lifetimes when the person was expressing their purpose to see common themes, and also explore between lives to learn more about what the person had in mind when they came into this life. You can have the client talk to their spirit guides for more guidance and ideas. You could also use the spirit journey techniques. These techniques are covered in Fundamentals II & III.

Foundational to all that might be an exercise in determining the person’s ideal values. That is an exercise I give to many of my clients for a variety of reasons. That is covered in Fundamentals II, also.

Hope this gets you started!

Another question from a curious student:

It is a situation when the person had difficulty going to trance and finally when he went to  a light trance, in this  situation he was just seeing nothing and only darkness. He is interested to connect with a departed soul to complete his feelings of guilt and grief. But as he was seeing nothing and I find him as a feeler rather than a seer, how can I help him connect with his departed loved one? How can hypnotherapy help him to feel peaceful, allow him release his unnecessary guilt and feeing of endless grief?

Answer:

Whenever a client comes up with “just black” or “nothing”, I continue to ask questions like:

What are the qualities of that blackness?

If you were blindfolded, what could you determine about where you are?

Is it cold, warm, damp, dry, spacious, closed-in, etc. – since he is kinesthetic (feeler), explore what he can feel.

And then, you can take a much different route, by just taking him directly to a vision of him sitting across from the departed one (chair therapy). Have him just pretend that the person is there, and set up a conversation between them.

You can also use Secondary Gains and Parts Therapy –

What benefit do you receive by continuing to hold guilt and this level of grief?

                What is the detriment?

What benefit would you have if you released the guilt and grief?

                What would be the detriment?

Then put the parts on each hand and have a conversation – one hand has the part that holds the grief and guilt, and the other hand has the part that wants to put closure on this.

And it can be very useful to use Secondary Gains and Parts Therapy on the very question of why it is difficult to go into trance or see anything more than blackness. There are often issues that will sabotage the success of the session – loss of control, trust, what happens if it is successful? What if I have to change based on what I learn? What if I don’t get the result I want? Etc.

Good luck!

Question:

I worked with secondary gain and parts therapy, but he has strong
feeling to continue smoking as he values smoking helping him to be more
focused and provide him stress relief. What should be my next step?

 Mary Lee’s Response:

This is a great question. I would seem to me that the Parts Therapy was not completed since the two parts (one that wants to smoke, and the other that wants to quit) did not come to an agreement. Or…of course, they both agreed that it would be better to continue. If that is not the case, and he really does still want to quit, then you still have two conflicting parts.  This will happen, occasionally, where an agreement does not get accomplished in one session. When that happens it indicates that there are still issues, desires, needs, that require attention and satisfaction. In this case, you will want to explore other ways to stay focused and achieve stress relief. Use techniques that will allow you to explore what distracts him from staying focused. You could use regression, asking him to describe to you a recent event when he had difficulty focusing. Go over the event a couple of times, looking at every detail of the event…he environment, attitude, and so forth. Then go back to a previous time when he had difficulty focusing. Again look at the details of the event. Look for similarities. Ask the subconscious to come up with ideas of alternative activities (other than smoking) that would accomplish the same thing as smoking. Perhaps if he sipped on a bottle of water, chewed on a straw, etc.  See if that works… if not, we’ll go back to the drawing board. Then, work on the stress management. You can use object imagery and other techniques to see why he is responding to his experiences with stress. Again, seek other ways for him to achieve relaxation. Perhaps he knows other people who have stressful lives that deal with it in different ways – go to the gym, meditate, take a walk, and so forth.  If you have my stress relief CD you can hear various techniques that I use – and then you can implement them with your client. Same with my other CDs – smoking, weight loss, etc. They are filled with the very techniques that I would use. Hope this helps and please let us know how you are faring with your client.   Mary Lee For more information and articles about hypnosis, self-development and awareness, plus workshops, products, and professional training, visit www.maryleelabay.com and www.awarenessengineering.com

Awareness Engineering encompasses many facets of raising consciousness. Here is a questions ( and my response ) concerning astral projection.

Hi Mary Lee,

I know this will sound a little bit crazy but, I have recently experienced a life changing event which I need some help exploring.  I recently was in a situation where I found myself floating outside my own body and yet could see myself unconscious in the hospital emergency room.  I do not seem to be able on my own to repeat the event.  Do you have some tape or hypnosis program that would be of assistance.

I would also be interested in past life regression as a result of this event.

Thank you,

R.C.

Hello R.C.,

I don’t have a specific CD to help you astral project (out of body experience). However, I do have CDs that provide past life regression, and other experiences. I assume that you have visited my website and have seen my products.

Typically the reasons we have difficulty re-enacting the out of body experience are:

• Too focused on being in the body
• When we get out, we forget the experience when we return
• When we get out, it startles or surprises us and then we find ourselves back in the body again.

Keep practicing – and realize that everyone astral projects while sleeping. You may experience benefits by programming yourself as you go to sleep – to go out of your body AND remember it when you awaken. Perhaps have a specific goal for your out of body experiences – such as visiting a location or going back or forward in time. Start with goals that do not have any emotional impact for you, where you are not invested in the outcome.

Hope this helps! Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Happy holidays,

Mary Lee

Awareness Engineering™ is a process for developing sustained alignment between the self and reality. It is an inner adventure in self-discovery, resulting in a deep shift in perspective which adds substance, meaning and purpose to everyday life. The process combines personal philosophical reconstruction with specific proven strategies and techniques for achieving clarity, wellness and fulfillment. The ultimate goal of the process is to provide conscious access to the full spectrum of human potential.

Through years of intensive study and clinical practice, Mary Lee LaBay has created a unique, highly effective system for the exploration and development of the whole person. Combining ancient disciplines—such as the Tarot and shamanic methods—with sound philosophy and contemporary techniques—hypnotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming and past life regression—Awareness Engineering™ provides a strategy by which any individual can achieve wellness and discover and follow his or her unique life path.

In the first course in the training series, you will be exposed to a sound foundation in the study of philosophy, while gaining techniques that will enhance any holistic practice, with the goal of providing deep and sustained health, happiness, and growth for your clients and patients.

Subsequent courses will continue with additional philosophical concepts, and will add specialized techniques such as past life and between life regression, shamanic journeys, soul retrieval, communication with spirit guides, and so much more.

The Awareness Engineering training courses are designed as an adjunct to your other professional healing education, licensing, or degree. This course assumes that you have, at the least, basic training in one of the many holistic modalities available. While basic hypnosis is a plus, it is not required. Please understand, however, that this course will not provide such requirements as AIDS awareness, first aid, professional ethics, and other information that may be required as a professional in your state or country. Please check with your state or national government for specific requirements before beginning your practice if you are not already a professional in the field of healing.

Courses are held at the Residence Inn South Lake Union in Seattle, WA.

Please check the website for further information about the courses and your instructor, and to register.  www.awarenessengineering.com

Remember CEUs for these courses are accepted by a number of organizations. Check website for details.
